Out of the Mouth of Babes…
I just read a quote that really struck a chord with me. I wondered what wise old sage had said it; perhaps one of the grand masters of photography or maybe an artist living a Monk-like life? No, these wise words come from the mouth of a mere babe, an NYU student.
“True artists pick their own perspectives – they live and love their way even if they must live and love alone. Praise and applause are not priorities of artists: what matters most is the fulfillment that comes with being oneself.”
Michael William Nebab, NYU Student
It’s incredible when someone can express such a large thought with only a few simple words. Well done Michael.
Do you have a quote that you find meaningful and inspirational? I’d love to hear it.
Cole
Hey Cole! I love reading your blog, excellent inspiration. Anyway I have a couple that are small but they grabbed me … “What we are never changes, but who we are never stops changing” – Gil Grissom; “What have you done today to make you feel proud?” -Heather Small (Biggest Loser theme song); “‘I could tell you my adventures – beginning from this morning,’ said Alice a little timidly: ‘but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.'” —Lewis Carroll; “Becaussse, I’m AWESOME!” -Dwight Schrute

Cole, I really love this photo you made! It struck me with simplicity and beauty! Fantastic!
And posted quote said it all.
I have few…quotes that i like… this one is from Scott Adams and it is on the beginning of my web to remind everybody that mistakes are positive process of creation“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”
And one from Albert Einstein “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
“The artist has an enormous role in the enhancement of today’s and the creation of tomorrow’s reality. He operates in a rank in advance of science as to the necessities and requirements of Man. The elevation of a culture can be measured directly by the numbers of its people working in the field of aesthetics.”–L. Ron Hubbard
“We deceive ourselves when we fancy that only weakness needs support. Strength needs it far more.” Madame Swetchine
I think I saw this quote for the first time in a US Navy exchange ad. This was in reference to supporting military members. As my husband sails off to assist with the crisis in Haiti, it comes to mind once again.
I also think of myself as a strong person, and have posted this as a reminder. It is okay to have people who encourage and commend you. Not everything has to be a critique. Whether in life or in art.
Cole, you continue to inspire me to go out and shoot. I currently live in the least inspiring place I have ever been. I also have friends and family who appreciate how I see the world around me. It keeps me searching out that next great shot.
Glad to hear that you’re back safely. I try to keep reminding myself that my (photographic) journey will be a lonely one most of the time since I’m the only one who knows where I’m headed and where I’m trying to go. Oh…great photo…is a series ever done?
Great image, great quote, Cole. THANKS for sharing!
“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” Henry David Thoreau
What a lucky man you are! Trasvelling, taking pictures, having good readings… You know how enjoy the life.
Greetings.
I love your “Lone Man” series! I am so glad it’s not finished.
I am inspired by the quotes everyone has posted. Here is one of my favorites:
“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful”…Albert Schweitzer.
I will add my two cents to this….I find that I need to define for myself what “success” means. When I do this, this quote becomes more meaningful.
Thanks!
Thanks Dianne, I think “defining success” warrants more discussion.
Cole
One of my favorite quotes of late has been, “anything more than 500 yards from the car is not worth photographing” but that’s just because I’m lazy. :~)
Excelentes fotografías, muy originales. Me han gustado mucho. Congratulations!
