Rano Raraku

Drawing

Dear Cole,

This is the second group of my new images from Easter Island and included are ones from the Quarry at Rano Raraku. This is where the Moai were born and the image above shows what it looked like in the 1880's. It is amazing to look at that image and to see how similar things still look today.

At the quarry one cannot help but wonder how the Rapa Nui created these massive works of religious art. But instead, I am always drawn to the "why" they suddenly stopped.

It's a mystery that has occupied my mind for decades.

Installment three of the new images should be out next week, at least that's my plan if I can finish them in time!
