“Are Your Ears Burning?”

Many of you know of my unusual and controversial practice of not looking at other photographers work (“Photographic Celibacy“)

Recently a friend wrote and asked if “my ears were burning” because Brooks Jensen had discussed this practice on his latest Podcast.  Brooks does not agree with this approach and offers another view, which you can listen to here.

I greatly like and respect Brooks; he’s an “old world” gentleman, a wonderful photographer and he publishes the most beautiful photographic art publication in the world.  So his opinion is worth considering!

  1. This is one thing I have always disagreed with you about – I think surrounding yourself with good photography doesn’t make your work any less valid, and it makes it richer.

But what works for you, works for you. And that’s what really matters.

  2. I have to say that I fully agree with Brooks. In my learning process it find extremely useful to learn and get ideas from others. It’ good to know that every artist has his/her own personal view. Best wishes!
